A deep dissection of music that examines and exemplifies how artistry can mold individuals and forge communities.
Scope of work
Music-geared magazines are quick to release an edition to cover the latest award winners in a shallow fashion, highlighting artists' hits and leaving out the most important and intimate pieces of artistry. Dedicated music fans in the modern age are left to dig around in snippets of the internet that archive information about their heroes and idols.
Ground is a publication that compiles those most interesting parts of artists and their work with deep dives on their history, dissections of their work and what it means to the industry and artists themselves, as well as up-close-and-personal interviews.

Logo
This zine features musical artists of all kinds, so the word mark must be adaptable and relevant. Typefaces were explored and kerned in search of finding the right one to fit the personality of the publication. Once settling on a typeface, the letterforms were manipulated in ways that could convey the theme of the zine.
Our final word mark encourages readers and fans to dig deep and uncover the genius and inspiration hidden in songs that they can now explore beyond a listener's level.

Image treatment
The treatment of imagery needed to by interesting while still being replicable for each band's issue. Below is a glimpse into the extensive exploration of how type and image might interact in the brand.

Branding
This brand is honest in its depictions, bold in its approach, and passionate in its display. Each artist and musical group is a master of their own work—and we will portray them as such.
The brand guide is adaptive but sturdy enough to feel like a uniquely strong brand that can still bend to the artistry of each band and their fan spaces.

Challenges
Creating an interesting application of the grid that draws the reader's eye through the pages with curiosity was my biggest hurdle. I did not want it to feel too traditional, but I wanted a clean, adaptable look that could fit several genres of music and personalities of artists.
Product Design
Each publication is the size of a 33 record, perfect to store in a record crate or on a bookshelf. The large page size allows for incredible, high quality images and plenty of space for annotations for those with the passion. Each edition is customized to best reflect the artist of focus.



REFLECTION
Intentional white space assists in cultivating moments of reflection for viewers. Creating a brand that is strong on its own but adaptable and customizable in each rendition is not easy, but has the potential to invoke unique experiences and resonate each time it is applied.
